Following the assault by unknown gunmen in Neighborhood Main College Umuopu in Umuozzi Ward 19 of Igboeze North Native Authorities Space, the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee INEC has suspended ward stage registration of voters in Igboeze North space of Enugu state.
Nationwide Commissioner and Chairman Info and Voter Training Committee, Festus Okoye, disclosed this in a press assertion on Thursday.
Okoye recalled that on third July 2022, INEC’s workplace in Ogboeze North Native Authorities Space was burnt down by unknown arsonists.
He famous that, regardless of the assault, the fee was in a position to proceed with ward stage registration with the help of vigilantes supplied by the Native Authorities authority. It is among the centres that has now been attacked.
The incident has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The assertion mentioned: “The Administrative Secretary in Enugu state, Mr. Jude Okwuonu, reported that at about 2.30pm on Wednesday thirteenth July 2023, our officers concerned within the Steady Voter Registration (CVR) train have been attacked by unknown gunmen in Neighborhood Main College Umuopu in Umuozzi Ward 19 of Igboeze North Native Authorities Space.
“The gunmen fired sporadically into the air to disperse registrants and registration officers. Within the ensuing stampede, one in every of our employees sustained accidents and is receiving remedy in a hospital.
“Nevertheless, two voter registration machines and private objects of the employees corresponding to cellphones have been misplaced.
